Night Time Photography

Things I would change: 1.Take the photo from a different angle so as not to get so much of the fore ground.  2. Be more aware of where the light would shine through due to the boy on the left.  3. Possibly paint the boys brighter with my flash gun, I did this but not enough.
Photo was taken in front of the Progress Energy plant in Asheville, NC in June.

In the Spotlight

Found a tiny bit of sunlight shining in through a small window in an abandoned garage. Told Zac to stand in it. The surroundings were a little creepy but the child innocent.

Shadow and Light

Two tea house shots.  I LOVED the shadows and available light in this place.  It made darker images, but I love the splashes of light and colour.

Tea House (Shadow 4)

I'm continuing my focus on shadows.  I recently went to a tea house here in Asheville, and the lighting was wonderful for shadows.  There will be two from this photo shoot.   This was where I was sitting, and I realized where the little bit of light was hitting me... so I asked my oldest son to sit there and tilt his head up, allowing the light to hit his eyes.

Shadow Three

The shadows are what make this photograph for sure!  I was excited when I saw this plant, and once I realized it was back lit I got even more excited because I knew the shadows were going to be killer.

Focusing on the Shadows for a while...2nd in a series

I think this photo is once again made by the shadows, I exposed it so the background would be dark and only the upper body and guitar would be lit.

For the shadows.

I think the shadows are what make this photo interesting.  I love the flower but if it were not for the rest of the photo being dark, the photo would not be as effective. I also enjoy that the buttercup flower is tattered rather then in great condition...makes it more beautiful I think.

What I would change...

This photo is definitely not my favorite photo from this shoot...but I do think it is cute.  I would love to get the guy to wear a different pair of shorts...something with just one color.

Skeedz

Zac is my oldest son, his nickname is Skeedz.  He is a very sweet tempered fun loving little boy.  He has also proven to be a great big brother so far.  Since I am a photographer, he is very used to getting his photo taken. Many times I partake in the fun, however, other times I am the person just out of sight capturing the memories of our family fun.

Agape

Agape- Unconditional Love, not based on performance or even whether it is returned. It is a love that gives even when rejected.

Fluffer Jum

This is my son Luke, fluffer jum is his nickname right now.  I used my 85 mm lense and available light which was coming from a window behind me in his room.  The two lenses I primarily use are the Canon 85mm and 100mm macro.

Skandalon

The Greek word for "offend"in Luke 17:1 comes from the word Skandalon. This word originally referred to the part of the trap to which the bait was attached.
I realize this has nothing to do with the photo I attached, however, I want to post a photo every day with SOMETHING educational.

My First Day with Macro.

Today was my first day really trying to shoot macro photography.  I am finding out again that I really enjoy working with available light, which did make things a little more challanging today.  So far I am happy with a few of the images I captured today, however, I realize there is much much more room to grow in this field.  I used my 100mm Canon Macro lense to capture this image.  Please, if you have any tips on macro photography I would love to hear them, as this is a new adventure for me.  Thanks!

Meet Ayden, He has Leukemia

This is Ayden, he is our next door neighbor and one of my Son's best friends.  He is almost three years old and was just diagnosed with Leukemia a few days ago.  We went to the hospital as soon as the doctor said he was well enough.  He used to be over here every day jumping on the trampoline, riding power wheels and romping in our backyard. Now he is hospitalized for at least six weeks, has a port in his chest, and will be receiving chemotherapy for the next three years. I am going to ask his parents if I can continue to document his recovery through my photography, since this was a first visit I did not take many photos as he was still very ill.  Please pray for our friend and I will try to post a new photo of him every once in a while to keep you all updated.

Creeping

We have a bird feeder in the front yard. One evening when the sun was perfect I noticed a lot of action, so I creeped out the front door and tip toed toward the feeder.  This woodpecker allowed me to get close enough for the shot I wanted, and I was pleased with the outcome.  I have been wanting to get a shot of a bird there for a while and I'm super happy it happened to be this one.  I shot this using my 20D and a 100mm macro L series lense.  It was taken just as the sun began to set using natural light. Post-Production I used fill light to try and get more detail in the face.

Elements

Every once in a while I do a self portrait photo shoot.  I usually prepare myself by taking a shower, applying makeup, and working with my hair a little...pampering.  For this photo I started looking through my dresser to find something that was colorful and meant something to me to include in the photo.  This scarf was the element I found.  The scarf belonged to my grandmother while she was alive; it was colorful and really fun to experiment with.  I sat leaning against our red/orange front door to use the natural sunlight coming in through the storm door.  Through the years I have realized my preference is to use available light, and soft natural sunlight is my favorite.  Luckily, although my home may be small, we have plenty of large windows with soft light pouring through.

Back Online.

This year has been tough.  Sometimes I wonder how much more strength building one person can go through.  On the photography side of things everything seems to be advancing, which is wonderful.  Recently I began reading UK Photography Monthly, which I have to say is the most informative photography magazine I have ever read.  It took me close to a month to read it from front to back and highlight the areas of interest.  I am so excited to try all the new techniqes.  My goal from here on is to upload one image a day, which will be challanging with two children and a job.  I think my other goal for the year will be to find a photography friend who lives close, because I miss going shooting with my photo buddies who all live in Florida.  Time to find a photo buddy in Asheville!!!
